She had an excellent band, with two original members of her seminal “Horses” LP (Jay Dee Daugherty on drums and Lenny Kaye on guitar and vocals);
She was angry, happy, sad, full of contrasts, scary sometimes and did not like people filming her rather than enjoying the show ;
She had a fantastic set list, playing all the classics as if it was a question of life or death : “Birdland“, “Pissing in a River“, “Because the Night“, “Rock’n’roll Nigger” and the best song in the world ever “G-L-O-R-I-A” ;
She introduced her band gently, with a specific mention of her son on guitar ;
She was so happy being back in Amsterdam that she did two sets at the legendary Paradiso theater and signed copies of her beautiful book “Just Kids” at the American Book Center ;
She is one of the greatest artists of our times, a poetess, a musician, a thinker, a human being who suffered, a person with fantastic survival instincts and creativity,
I was very happy to see her again live.
